Easy recipes for kids- Ragi(Finger millet) halwa

This recipe is full of calcium and protein and contains a great amount of iron and other minerals..Why ?? coz its a halwa made with "Ragi" , commonly known as "Nachni" in Maharashtra and common name of Finger Millet in South India. It's not only good for children but for everyone and can double up as a healthy dessert too!!! As with my other recipes,I always try to bring in the health part by using more of healthy and nutritious food items.I almost always manage to trick my son by calling it a "chocolate pudding" !!

Ingredients:
1/4 cup Ragi flour (Easily available in the market)
1/4 cup Whole wheat flour
A pinch of cardamom powder or crushed cardamom
A few almonds (blanched , peeled)
2 tablespoons of ghee
Whole elaichi
Jaggery (grated)
1 cup water

Method
  • Roast ragi flour and whole wheat flour in ghee stirring continuously to prevent the mixture from burning.Sprinkle some cardamom powder , elaichi and almonds to it.
  • While this is happening, add some grated jaggery to the water and boil it separately.
  • Once the flour turns brown and you get a nice roasted aroma from it,add the water made in the previous step to it.
  • Now stir the mixture continuously making sure that no lumps are formed and you get a thick pulp.
  • Garnish the dish with almonds and cashew nuts.
